PhilosophyPractically - After having spent quite a time drawing preparatory sketches I proceeded with a light drawing in graphite, and slowly worked into this inspirational image with both graphite and coloured pencils. Philosophically - This picture is based upon a strange experience I had some time ago in a forested Anglo-Saxon Avenue. As I walked along this enchanted way I became aware of an abstract compulsion to leave the roadway and venture into the woods. A few yards in and I suddenly realised that I was standing before an enormous oak tree. And as I walked around it, trying to take in the age and size of it, I had the oddest sensation that the tree was telling me something - not in words but simply by it presence. What it told me is for my heart only. However, I believe that I was given something of great value, and I treasure the memory (which is part of the gift) to this day. Perhaps, if you and I meet, I might share some of it with you. |
